Pressure gauge. All boilers must be fitted with at least one pressure indicator. The usual type is a simple pressure gauge constructed to EN 12953. The dial should be at least 150 mm in diameter and of the Bourdon tube type, it should be marked to indicate the normal working pressure and the maximum permissible working pressure / design pressure.
View MoreWhen the heating is turned on your boiler pressure should be between 1.5 and 2 bar. Most boilers will highlight this area on the pressure gauge in green to help you see if the needle is pointing to the correct amount of pressure. Some boilers will also have the critical zones below 1 and above 2 marked in red to help you identify any issues.

View MoreThe water pressure inside a boiler system should usually be somewhere between 1 and 1.3 bar (but check your manual to find out its optimum range). If it’s too high or low outside this range, your system won’t work efficiently, as that’s the range at which all the components are designed to operate.

View MoreLocate your pressure gauge. Your pressure gauge is most likely located on the side of the boiler, and looks something like this. Look at the pressure level. Pressure levels in residential boilers should be around 12–15 psi (pounds per square inch). Contact a professional if your boiler’s pressure levels are higher than 12-15 psi.
View MorePressure drop - Theoretically this would be from boiler pressure to atmospheric pressure. However, pipeline friction and backpressure is inevitable, so for the purposes of this Module, a ssume the pressure on the downstream side of the orifice is 0.5 bar g.

View MoreIf your system is leaking from the boiler pressure valve then it’s best to check if the pressure is too high. The boiler pressure relief valve is designed to leak water as a safety protection feature to prevent damaging your appliances.. To identify if you have an over-pressure fault, look at the gauge needle on your boiler, it should be pointing in the green section, set to around one bar.
View MoreYour boiler must be at the correct pressure for the hot water to circulate properly between the radiators, especially if they are on different floors.Generally, the ideal pressure is between 1 and 2 bars, but this may vary from boiler to boiler.Ask your heating engineer. Check the pressure gauge. A quick look at the pressure gauge is enough to check your boiler’s pressure.
View MoreThe ideal boiler pressure should be between 1 to 1.5 bars on your pressure gauge when your heating is switched off. Around 2 bars is a normal pressure level when your boiler is active/heating up. Anything below 0.5 is too low and must be replaced.
View MoreQuestion: Boiler pressure In tanker vessels we use boilers for cargo heating. Lets say that steam pressure to deck line adjusted to 5 bar. What will be most economical? Boiler pressure adjusted to 7 bar or to 16 bar ? Answer: The higher pressure would be advantageous if the boiler is oil-fired, but the difference is hardly measurable.
